How to Type a Pi Symbol on Any Device

Pi, backwards K, uppercase delta, and lowercase delta symbols for keyboard entry and copy-paste

To learn how to type a pi symbol (π), how to type a backwards k (Ʞ), or how to type delta (Δ or δ), use the character itself, a Unicode shortcut, or a character picker. These are text characters, so you can copy them into a document, message, or search box.

How to Type a Pi Symbol (π) on Desktop and Mobile

π is the Greek small letter pi, Unicode U+03C0. A standard keyboard usually has no dedicated pi key.

  • Windows: In Microsoft Word or Outlook, type 03C0, then press Alt+X. In any Windows app, open Character Map by pressing Win+R, entering charmap, and selecting π.
  • Mac: Press Option+P to enter π. You can also press Control+Command+Space, search for “pi” in Character Viewer, and double-click the symbol.
  • Linux: In many applications, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 03c0, and press Enter.
  • iPhone or Android: Add a Greek keyboard in your keyboard settings, switch to it, and tap π. If you do not want another keyboard layout, copy π from the fallback list below.

How to Type a Backwards K (Ʞ), Not a Rotated Image

Ʞ is the Unicode character LATIN CAPITAL LETTER TURNED K, U+A7B0. It is the character you need for a backwards K, not a rotated image of K and not baseball scorekeeping notation.

  • Windows Word or Outlook: Type A7B0, then press Alt+X. In other Windows apps, use Character Map and copy Ʞ.
  • Mac: Open Character Viewer with Control+Command+Space, search for “turned K,” and select Ʞ.
  • Linux: In supported apps, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type a7b0, and press Enter.
  • Phones: iPhone and Android keyboards normally have no dedicated key for Ʞ. Copy it, or create a text replacement such as ;bk.

How to Type Delta (Δ and δ) in Documents and Apps

Δ is Greek capital letter delta, U+0394. δ is Greek small letter delta, U+03B4. Use Δ for uppercase text and δ for lowercase text. The similar-looking mathematical increment symbol, ∆, is a different character.

  • Microsoft Word or Outlook: Type 0394 and press Alt+X for Δ, or type 03B4 and press Alt+X for δ.
  • Windows: Find either character in Character Map and copy it.
  • Mac: Open Character Viewer, search for “delta,” and choose the Greek capital or small letter. Check the preview so you do not select ∆ by mistake.
  • iPhone or Android: Add the Greek keyboard, use its shift key for Δ, or select δ in the lowercase layout.
  • Google Docs: Choose Insert > Special characters, search for “delta,” and select the required case.

Copy-Paste, Character Viewer, and Insert Symbol Fallbacks

Use these exact characters when a shortcut or keyboard layout is unavailable:

  • Pi: π
  • Backwards K: Ʞ
  • Uppercase delta: Δ
  • Lowercase delta: δ

In Word, use Insert > Symbol > More Symbols, then search or browse by Unicode value. In LibreOffice, use Insert > Special Character. On macOS, Character Viewer works in most apps.

For frequent use on a phone, add a text replacement under keyboard settings. For example, set ;pi to π, ;bk to Ʞ, and ;delta to Δ.
